As gramps and I left our house, we heard voices confirming each other’s safety and crying from every direction. There were plenty of houses with broken walls, which were most likely broken by wolves.
“This is…”
I realized that the situation was worse than expected.
“Let’s go quickly. We’ll aid as many people as we can on the way.”
Gramps said, as he headed to a place where they seemed short of hands.
“Ah, yeah.”
Saying that, I followed after him.
“Ritsu, it’s about time we headed to the station.”
After a while, Gramps finally said that to me.
“Got it.”
“It looks like there’s been a significant number of casualties, and if they come back, that number will only increase.”
“Now that you say that, I wonder how the other wards are doing.”
“We’ll have to hear that from the people at the station as well.”
With this and that, we finally arrived at the North Police Station. The station was built adjacent to the ward office, and many of its staff members were running around, bellowing in anger.
On the inside, Detective Igarashi, who had come to our house the other day, and a man presumably from the ward office, were arguing.
“Then what exactly do you expect me to do!”
“Like I said, immediately evacuate the inhabitants of this ward to a place with emergency power. Now that the power supply has been cut off, that’s the only way we can protect the inhabitants.”
“I know that! But now that the entire upper management of the ward office is missing, there’s no one who can take responsibility here!”
“This is not the time to be saying that. I’ll take responsibility then.”
“There’s no way a simple detective like you could take on the responsibility!”
“Enough, we are in an emergency right now! The lives of this ward’s inhabitants are on the line, which means we don’t have time for your responsibility crap!”
Unable to restrain himself, Igarashi yells at the top of his lungs and the official falters. An unpleasant atmosphere was flowing in the area.
“Fine. I’ll do as much as I can. It’s fine to tell the inhabitants to self-evacuate verbally. But, the reality of the matter is that the capacity of the evacuation shelter, which has enough electrical supply for all our citizens, is not that big.”
The official said as if exhausted. He continues-
“We’re guaranteed to have riots in the shelter.
Currently, light is the only effective countermeasure we have against those wolves. If we prompt everyone to evacuate now, we’d eventually be telling them that we can’t take everyone so they’ll just have to die outside.
This would surely lead to conflict among ward inhabitants.”
The ward official said with a difficult face.
Igarashi pursed his lips while also making a difficult expression. As he opened his mouth to say something, a voice suddenly rang in my head.
<<Reflecting the effects of the blessing [Status] to all applicable races>>
<<Granting the skill [Simple Appraisal] to all mankind>>
<<Expanding the Sanctuary>>
<<Beginning the transfer of all mankind to Sanctuary>>
“This voice…”
By the time I muttered that, everyone around me had suddenly disappeared.
