Ever since I became alone, I started to lay low in my house, while trying to survive.
At first, whenever it became dark, the wolves would certainly come out and I would fight against them daily, but recently creatures other than wolves had also started wandering.
Moreover, trees and vines had started growing wild enough to rip through concrete, making Tohto lose any resemblance to what it was before. Also, “Ki” had spread thinly throughout the town.
A simple appraisal of a wolf,
———-
Race : Black-Wolf (Illuminated Beast)
—-Race Skill
[Kikou]
<Color>
[Black]
———-
Lead to this. I tried appraising other monsters as well, but most of them also turned out to be illuminated beasts, and possessed their own <Color>.
“Recently they’ve started stepping out during daytime, making this place even more dangerous.”
“Still, even if I wanted to leave, I’m sure the other wards are just as swamped.”
Ritsu once took a peak inside the Central Ward, but it too was filled with a ridiculous number of yellow-colored monkeys.
The worst part being that there were seemingly no other monsters in that area, which meant those monkeys were just that strong.
As I continued lurking about, there was a change in my stats.
———-
Yozakura Ritsu
Race : Sage
—-Skills
[Martial Arts]
[Simple Appraisal]
—-Race Skills
[Kikou]
<Colors>
[Blue]
[Black]
———-
The color [Black] was added to my skills. As always, this color thing was still confusing to me, but I did realize that this was the same color wolves used.
“In that case, I should be able to enter the shadows like those things right?”
Thinking so, I tried it out numerous times but failed every time. If I could master <Colors>, it would expand my arsenal greatly.
For that reason, I felt somewhat irritated at the current situation.
“Hmm, I wonder which ward I should go to?”
I had faint hopes, that I might be able to grasp something about my abilities if I went to another ward.
“Let’s try the Western Ward.”
After a little hesitation, I chose the calmer western ward as my destination over the eastern one.
“The Western Ward has much more foliage compared to other wards.”
I said to myself, while looking around the ward which had completely turned into a forest.
“Securing food is going to be problematic. An item box like the one found in games would be really convenient here.”
Of course, I had no such skill. I wasn’t sure if it even existed or not.
“Aah man…oh?”
I felt the faint presence of a monster. Looking in its direction, a single cat was standing still while staring at me.
“…!Hey, it’s pretty cute actually.”
While feeling peaceful by myself, the cat suddenly approached me.
(Did a normal house-cat get left behind by accident?)
As I got closer to the cat,
“Myaaa~”
It let out a cute voice, and simultaneously, numerous vines sprouted out of the ground and wrapped themselves around Ritsu.
“Wh-!”
Using Kikou, I quickly break out of the vines, but new ones immediately replace them and attack me.
“Shit, it was a monster after all!”
While feeling embarrassed at letting my guard down, I appraise the cat:
———-
Race : White-Cat (Illuminated Beast)
—-Race Skills
[Kikou]
<Color>
[White]
———-
“!!It was an illuminated beast!”
Surprised at what I saw, I took a big leap backwards to increase the distance between us.
“Fu, so this is white’s ability huh?”
I had seen white beasts before, but this was my first time seeing their corresponding ability.
(The ability to bind your enemies with vines?)
*Don*
“GU-“
This time instead of vines, a tree shaped like a log pops out and hits me squarely.
The trees attacked me one after another, and being on the backfoot, defending against it was all I could do.
“Damn it!”
Concentrating Ki into my arm, I intercept the tree with all my might.
(I’ll get closer like this and finish it off in one go)
Rushing towards the cat, I forcefully deflect every tree that came my way.
“NYAAAAAAAA!”
“DAAAMN ITTT!”
As I smashed my fist into the cat with all my might, it made a satisfying sound, and the cat went flying all the way to the other end of the forest.
“Haah-, that was way too close…”
Ritsu said, having felt a positive feedback on his fist.
Carving into my heart as to not let my guard down, I progressed further inside the forest.
