Suburbs of Tohto—

“Igarashi-san! Over here!”

“Coming.”

As Igarashi entered the scene with a rugged expression, he saw the bodies of 5 humans laying on the ground.

With well-accustomed movements, he closed his eyes and pressed his hands in prayer.

“Oi, what have you got so far?”

Igarashi asked Tashiro, who was moving around without paying mind to the scene and collected information.

“It seems like we barely know anything so far. We’re even more at a loss, with the state of the bodies like this. The one thing we can say for sure, is that their cause of death was being burnt alive.”

“Hm…got it. We’ll head back to the station after I roam around a bit more.”

Igarashi muttered as if he was thinking about something.

“Gotcha.”

<Police Station, Tohto Jurisdiction>

“This feels like it’ll be another difficult case… In fact, is it even possible that someone could burst into flames in the middle of nowhere?”

Tashiro spoke to Igarashi, while reading the summarized investigation documents.

“Not sure, but it is possible that they did burn to death…”

Igarashi, who’d just finished reading the documents, replied with a sigh. While staring at the sky from the window, he continued.

“However, it’s difficult to think they naturally combusted. Which means it’s reasonable to conclude that another person was involved here.”

The skies of Tohto were colored concrete-grey with rain clouds, that gave it a somewhat disturbing feeling. The rain was seconds away from pouring down.

<Yozakura Residence, Rear Mountain>

“Haa~, I can’t go on anymore.”

As the mice-colored rain clouds gathered in the sky, I lay sprawled on the ground in an open area of the rear-mountains.

“I’ve spent a full-day here somehow.”

After experiencing the difficulty of handling Inner Kikou first-hand, I desperately practiced adjusting my ki and finally succeeded in controlling it.

“With this, I can finally go back to school tomorrow.”

Despite laying on the ground exhausted, Ritsu had a satisfied look on his face. He’d undergone a large variety of training regiments every day, but this sort of experience was new to him since he’d never done it before.

“I guess I can breathe easy for now…”

Ritsu breathed a sigh of relief, as he gulped down the remaining water in his canteen.

(I’ve managed to avoid a situation where I had to live my life with superman-like strength)

“Seriously, it would be like a punishment if I had to live like that.”

I couldn’t even manage to eat food the way I was before. It was fun living a life where I accidentally destroyed things in the house, but realizing how bad it could go, I realized it was a stressful way to live.

“Let’s go back home.”

(I’m hungry in any case, so it’s better to head back now)

Despite feeling lethargic, I stood up on my legs, and traversed the evening forest back home.

“I’m back–.”

While getting tensed after noticing that the doorknob wasn’t broken anymore, I entered the house to find that the old man was taking a bath. He was humming some song care-freely.

…..Isn’t it carefree to hum the BGM of a shogun who’s about to go on a rampage?

“Guess I’ll start on dinner.”

By the time he had finished making supper, the old man had stepped out of the bathroom.

“Hm, so you’re back.”

“That should be my line. Where’d you walk off to all-day, old man?”

“I was instructing down at the police station today.”

On account of his martial-arts skills, the old man went to the police station frequently to give lessons on self-defense and making arrests.

Based on that, he always scolded me by saying despite acting like a martial artist, I’d get beaten by a cop, and make my training more difficult.

“Aah…I hope you went easy on whoever you faced off against?”

“I know how much to hold back. Besides Ritsu, despite acting like a martial artist, if you don’t keep up with ye’r training, you’d get beaten by a cop if he decides to bring a gun, y’ know?”

“It can’t be helped if he decides to bring a gun though…”

He’d stopped mentioning “losing to cops” as a reason recently, and instead made up situations, like “if they come in a group”, or “if you face off against a thug with a gun”, where I’m pretty much already in a checkmate, and use that to make my training more severe.

“Naive. As expected, I’ll have to add more to your training.”

“…..”

“Ritsu, do you hate training?”

Out of the blue, the old man asked me something with a serious face. I was surprised seeing him act different than usual, but I hid my bewilderment and answered casually.

“Huh…? What’s wrong all of a sudden? It’s not like I hate it, or anything…”

The old man stared at my face for a while, then spoke with a nasty smile on his face while laughing.

“I see, then I guess I can add more without worrying!”

(You tricked me by creating that weird atmosphere didn’t you, you damn geezer!)
