Morning. While Ritsu was practicing his sword swings in the courtyard, Ren walked out like yesterday. Since he looked flustered again, he must have woken up in panic like before.

“Morning.”

“Good morning!”

Ren picked up the wooden sword and started swinging it at a slight distance. Ritsu puts away his own sword and observes him. While Ren himself belonged to Yozakura school, his sister was from Reibai.

Despite training at a Yozakura dojo all his life, his sword had traces of his sister’s, making it more like the speed-dependent Reibai than a normal Yozakura swordsman’s.

“It feels like the basics are still off.”

As he approached Ren, Ritsu drew his sword as well and said so while taking position.

“Try closing our gap just like that.”

Ritsu told Ren, once they had both taken a stance.

“Y-yes.”

As he tried closing the gap, Ren realized he couldn’t do so that easily. From his perspective, Ritsu’s sword appeared like a dot due to how he positioned it, so he was unable to grasp its length and couldn’t step in.

Seeing Ren having a hard time, Ritsu slowly approached him without breaking posture. Ren continued to get cornered like that till he reached the end of the courtyard. Seeing his troubled expression, Ritsu lowers his sword.

“I failed to close our gap.”

“True. If you take the correct stance then it will come naturally to you. In real battles, the staring contest lasts even longer than the actual fight itself. Now though, we have skills and taking on monsters is much more…”

Ritsu’s eyes widened as he looked at the one who stood behind Ren.

“…Morning.”

Behind Ren stood the girl whom Ritsu brought from the carriage, yawning. Her whitish-silver hair glistened under the sun.

Ritsu was more surprised to see that the girl’s “Ki” had become weaker than her unusual appearance.

“Good, morning?”

The girl muttered while tilting her head, and stood next to Ritsu.

“How are you feeling?”

Ren asks the girl next to Ritsu. She appeared to be around Ren’s age, but her mannerisms made her seem much more younger.

“Sleepy…”

“Despite sleeping for 3 days?”

“Don’t remember. Where am I?”

The girl lightly clasps Ritsu’s clothes and says with a somewhat uneasy expression.

“This is Shimozawa District; a town under the jurisdiction of the central government. My name is Yozakura Ritsu.”

“Ah, my name is Asuma Ren. Nice to meet you…”

“…..Hello.”

She lightly bows her head after saying that.

“My name is… Rion.”

“I see. Where did Rion come from? I found you inside a horse carriage.”

Ritsu asked Rion, who was mumumu-ing next to him while twisting her head.

“Horse carriage? Don’t remember… More importantly, Ritsu…san, do we know each other? Have we met before?”

The girl still tilted her head as she answered the question and pulled on Ritsu’s clothes.

“No, I don’t think we’ve met before.”

“No, I’m sure we have met somewhere.”

“Is that, so?”

“Could she be sensing Ritsu-san’s power?”

Ren spoke, remembering how Ritsu had earlier mentioned about sensing ‘Ki’.

“‘Ki’?”

“By ‘Ki’ he means the fluffy power that surrounds Rion and me.”

“Is this ‘Ki’?”

Rion pointed at the ‘Ki’ surrounding Ritsu.

“That’s right.”

“So I can’t see it after all…”

“Even when I went to Yozakura headquarters, Igarashi-san was about the only other person who could sense it.”

Ritsu said while remembering his first visit to Yozakura headquarters.

“Igarashi Ousei only, huh.”

“No one knows about it?”

Rion asked while take quick glances towards Ren.

“No, I don’t know much about it.”

“Most people don’t. Rion is the first person I’ve met other than myself who is able to sense ‘Ki’.”

“So, I’m the same as Ritsu-san.”

Rion looked towards Ritsu and smiled. Her expression contained a beauty which couldn’t have belonged to any normal young girl.

“Yeah. Also, just ‘Ritsu’ is fine.”

“Okay, Ritsu.”

Ren continued to watch over the curious exchange between the two.
