"Lazy woman, our Qin family can't afford you! Third Son, you must divorce her today!" Qin Mother glared with anger, pointing viciously at the unconscious woman on the bed.
"Today she trampled the seedlings in someone's field, and tomorrow she smashed another family's eggs. We simply don't have the money to compensate! Third Brother, it's not that I'm being stingy, but our family really can't afford to let her wreak havoc anymore!"
"Third Brother, Second Sister-in-law was wrong today, but she hit Second Dog. If I hadn't pushed her away, Second Dog would have been beaten to death!"
A dull pain throbbed in her forehead, and the noise in her ears was deafening. Lin An'an struggled to open her eyes slightly, only to see a place she was completely unfamiliar with.
The walls were made of earth, the floor was yellow clay, and the furnishings were simple. A pile of damp firewood was stacked in the corner of the room. Inside, there were three women and one man. The three women had various expressions—some were fierce, some were gloating, and some looked pitiful. The man stood with his back to her, so she couldn't see his face.
A musty, damp smell from the bedcovers hit her, making her feel uncomfortable, and she couldn't help but cough.
"Cough, cough, cough..."
The coughing made the voices stop, and the three women looked over, only then realizing that the person had woken up.
Qin Third Son quickly turned to look at the woman on the bed. A large gash on her forehead had been treated with ash, but it was still bloody and dirty. A look of helplessness flashed in Qin Third Son's eyes as he stepped forward, his voice filled with concern, "Are you okay?"
"I..." She opened her mouth and found her voice hoarse and unpleasant, as if her throat had been burned, causing her immense pain.
"Don't speak. Doctor Ma said you ate something that caused heat, and your throat is full of blisters."
Hearing this, she nodded and then carefully examined the man in front of her.
The man had a rugged, chiseled face, thick, dark eyebrows, deep, star-like eyes, a high nose, and a well-defined mouth.
He was tall and muscular, estimated to be over 1.85 meters tall, with a broad, triangular build. He was likely the type who would have a well-built body, and his exposed skin was tanned from working in the fields.
Lin An'an blinked, somewhat stunned by the man's handsomeness.
A sharp pain shot through her head, and at the same time, memories that were not hers flooded her mind.
"Ouch!" She whimpered and fell back weakly.
Qin Third Son quickly supported her, "Huayue, what's wrong, Huayue! Quickly find a doctor!"
Lin An'an couldn't hear Qin Third Son's calls; the memories in her mind made her fall into a coma.
In the memories, the original owner was named Huayue, the eldest daughter of the Hua family in the town. The Hua family had a long history of practicing medicine, and her grandfather's generation had been imperial physicians.
However, the medical skills of her grandfather's generation had declined, and they could only open a few medical clinics and pharmacies in this small town, but they were still considered one of the wealthiest families in the town.
The Qin family, on the other hand, were poor farmers who couldn't afford to send their children to school.
Qin Third Son was the golden phoenix that flew out of the chicken coop. He passed the examination this year and became a scholar, and Huayue had her eye on him, begging her father to marry Qin Third Son.
With the parents' consent and the matchmaker's words, the head of the Hua family's main branch used a generous dowry to blind Qin Mother. Although they knew that a scholar had a bright future, they simply couldn't afford to support another candidate for the imperial examination. The Hua family promised that if Qin Third Son married the eldest daughter of the main branch, Huayue, all future educational expenses would be covered by the Hua family.
Qin Third Son had never met Huayue and was initially unwilling to agree, as he had certain expectations for his future wife. He didn't ask for a harmonious relationship, but he hoped for mutual respect and the ability to converse.
However, because his parents had already agreed to the head of the Hua family's main branch, and with Qin Mother's pleading and the sisters-in-law's complaints about their malnourished children, Qin Third Son finally relented.
Thus, the marriage was arranged.
But when the red veil was lifted, Qin Third Son realized that this Hua family's young lady... was indescribable.
