Chapter 8

3 min read700 words

It has been five years since the engagement scandal with Oswald.

The year after I became engaged to Alex, we got married, and now I support him both publicly and privately as his queen.

The domestic politics have largely stabilized under his leadership, and the country's strength is growing steadily.

There were concerns about relations with other countries, but those have now been resolved.

The one who played a key role in this... was none other than that Oswald.

Oswald, who had been engaged to Sophina, suddenly began to study hard and rose to become a diplomat in just two years.

In the following three years, he steadily expanded alliances, and now almost the entire continent is a friendly nation.

All of this is due to Oswald's leadership.

Who would have thought that the lazy, study-averse Oswald would become one of the pillars supporting the country?

Knowing him since childhood, I found it even harder to believe.

It was as if someone else had taken over his body, wearing Oswald's face.

Did Sophina do something?

I had a feeling and asked her about it once.

"---It seems that Lady Sophina's persistent words for Lord Oswald's sake were finally understood."

Sophina said this with her usual charming smile.

...Maybe my nagging wasn't as worthless as I thought.

Regardless of the trigger, what truly deserves praise is Oswald's own effort.

And the dedication of Sophina, who supported him from behind the scenes.

"---I didn't do anything. If I must say, though..."

Without any modesty, Sophina smiled gently.

"---I just wanted to see Lady Sophina's smile. That's all."

---

"Then, I will come to pick you up at eight tomorrow."

"Ah, thank you."

After giving the schedule to the driver, Oswald waved him off and entered the mansion.

"Welcome back, sir."

"Thank you. Where is Sophina?"

He asked the maid who was cleaning about his wife's whereabouts.

No matter how exhausted Oswald was from his demanding work, he always tried to see Sophina.

"She is in the second-floor bedroom."

"Thank you."

The maid envied their relationship, truly believing they loved each other deeply.

"Sophina. It's me. I just got back."

"Welcome back. Please come in."

Oswald climbed the stairs and entered the room where his beloved wife was waiting.

---

The moment he did, the smile on his face vanished.

"..."

He let his hands dangle and silently sat in the chair placed in a corner of the room.

That was his waiting spot.

Even though her beloved husband had returned, Sophina did not even glance at him as she asked,

"Report."

"There are ominous shadows in the country facing the Western Sea. It's likely that forces from another continent have infiltrated."

"...Damn. If they keep sneaking in despite all the repetitions, it means the flag for the other continent's invasion is unrelated to you."

Biting her nails, Sophina flipped through an old, worn notebook.

It was a homemade timeline tracing the 'history that should not exist' that Oswald had seen.

The notebook had been updated since then.

"●● Year. Killed by assassins from another continent, along with Alex."

"■■ Year. If Alex is killed alone, I will either commit suicide afterward or fight to the bitter end (conditions branch based on the presence of children)."

"Still... how much does the creator hate Lady Sophina?"

Sophina spat out the words.

Oswald showed no reaction to her words, just staring blankly into space, frozen like a doll without oil.

There was not a trace of the ideal couple's interaction that outsiders might imagine in this room.

"...Well, it doesn't matter. Whether it's the world or fate, I will break down anyone who stands in Lady Sophina's way and make sure she is happy."

Sophina gazed adoringly at the portrait of her sister, Rayla, hanging on the wall.

"Lady Sophina... I love you so much."

If you think "Sophina should have been the main character," please bookmark and give this a ★★★★★.

Thank you for reading this far.

If there is a good response, I might write a story from Sophina's perspective.

I was going to end it here, but I received an overwhelming response, so it will continue.
