Chapter 1: The Princess Returns to the Palace

The Great Chu Kingdom was in the midst of the cold winter season. Last night, a fierce snowstorm swept through the palace, leaving everything in a silver-white coat.

Now, the snow had stopped, the sky was overcast, and a cold wind howled.

However, outside the Chengqian Hall in the palace, two rows of people were lined up.

At a glance, they were all little girls around three or four years old.

Some were dressed in warm cotton clothes, while others wore only three thin layers.

Without exception, they all looked up in anticipation, waiting for an aunt from inside the Chengqian Hall to call them in.

At the end of the line stood a particularly adorable and delicate little girl.

Her skin was as smooth as snow, and her round, chubby face and small nose were flushed red from the cold.

A tiger hat covered her small head, with some of her black, soft hair sticking to her forehead, making her eyes appear even more bright and sparkling, like two black pearls.

Her clothes were simple but clean and tidy.

At this moment, the little girl was holding a cold sweet potato with her chubby hands and eating it.

She was quiet and well-behaved, despite being only three years old.

Two eunuchs standing nearby were shivering from the cold.

They looked up and saw two little girls, their eyes red from crying, being led out of the Chengqian Hall by palace attendants.

The eunuch warmed his hands in his sleeves and said to his companion, "The Emperor has been on the throne for more than two years, and he has been searching for his wife and daughter for almost a year now. Despite finding nothing, he still persists! Why is that?"

His companion sighed, "You don't know, do you? The Emperor fought in many battles, and his wife and daughter accompanied him without complaint. When war broke out, the family was forced to separate. Now that he holds great power, he must want to find them!"

The young eunuch scoffed, "In my opinion, they are probably long gone! Two years ago, the world was in chaos. A woman with a child under a year old might have already died!"

"Shh! Do you want to die? The Emperor has not taken a single concubine or even a queen, showing his deep affection for his wife. He is reserving the position for her!"

"What's the point? The Emperor only remembers that his child has a red mole on her ear. So many children have come, all meeting the criteria, but the Emperor says none of them are the right one. Perhaps he is just putting on a show for the people!"

The two eunuchs laughed after saying this.

They turned their attention to the little girl at the end of the line, who was still eating her sweet potato.

Her face was round and white, and her black eyes were focused on the sweet potato.

Even her fingertips were red from the cold, but she was still enjoying her meal.

The eunuchs walked over and snatched the sweet potato from the little girl's hands, holding it high.

They were already freezing and hadn't eaten enough themselves, so they couldn't bear to see a child eating!

"You are not allowed to bring food into the palace! No more eating for you!" the eunuch scolded, acting superior.

They figured that none of the little girls in the line today were the Emperor's biological children.

So, they decided to vent their frustration on an easy target!

The little girl's voice was soft and sweet. She glared at them with her big, round, black eyes and said, "Give it back to me!"

The little girl looked delicate and fair, as if she came from a good family, but her clothes were not expensive. The two eunuchs became even bolder.

They tossed the sweet potato back and forth, using their height to keep it out of the little girl's reach.

The little girl, in a hurry, stretched out her soft, chubby hands and jumped to try to grab it.

"Bad guys, you're going to die!" she said angrily, placing her hands on her hips and looking up at the eunuchs defiantly.
