"Warning! Warning! Urgent mission, please wake up immediately, host."
A sharp alarm sounded in Lin Qirong's mind, a mechanical voice repeatedly urging him to wake up, pulling him out of his daze.
"Mission? Host? What is this?"
He groaned and opened his eyes, only to find a little girl sobbing and clinging to his chest, her messy hair tickling his neck uncomfortably.
"Daddy." The little girl looked up in surprise when she noticed he was awake. "You're finally awake, Tongtong was so scared."
"Ugh." Lin Qirong shook his aching head, still unsure of what was happening.
Wasn't he just working overtime on a script? How did he end up here? And who is this little girl?
"Daddy, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" The little girl reached out with her small hand and placed it on his cheek, her eyes filled with concern.
The soft touch on his cheek was warm, and it warmed his heart as well.
He looked at the little girl more closely. She was about three years old, with messy hair and slightly tattered clothes. Despite her disheveled appearance, she had a delicate face like a porcelain doll, though her complexion was a bit yellow, suggesting she might be malnourished.
Her big, round eyes were still filled with unshed tears, and the concern and fear in her gaze made his heart ache with tenderness.
Perhaps she thought her father wouldn't wake up?
Right, she called him "Daddy." Could it be that he had been transported to another world and become a father?
As a screenwriter, Lin Qirong was no stranger to such plot twists.
What a joke fate was playing on him. He, a single man, had been working day and night, and just when his script was chosen by a famous director, on the verge of achieving his dream of marrying a rich and beautiful woman and reaching the pinnacle of his life, he was suddenly transported to this place and became a father?
The little girl looked at him timidly, her small hands still clutching his clothes tightly. Her pitiful gaze softened his heart.
Maybe in her mind, he was her father. If he told her that her father was actually dead and that he was someone else, she might not be able to handle it.
"Please, host, do not have such thoughts." The mechanical voice sounded in his mind again. "Please check your mission and complete it."
"What mission?" Lin Qirong asked instinctively.
"What? Daddy?" The little girl was startled.
"Please keep my existence a secret, host, or the consequences will be severe." The mechanical voice continued. "From now on, you can communicate with me through your thoughts. I will now assign you an urgent mission."
A screen then appeared in front of Lin Qirong, displaying a list of content.
Urgent Mission: The young master is extremely unstable emotionally and on the verge of a breakdown. Please calm her down as soon as possible and make her happy.
Reward: 500 Dad Points, one starter pack.
A cold sweat broke out on Lin Qirong's forehead. What the hell is this?
"Please complete the mission as soon as possible, host, or the consequences will be severe. Do not challenge the authority of the system. If you have any questions, the system will explain them to you later."
Fine, Lin Qirong sighed.
The "young master" must be this little girl. From his memories, her name seemed to be Lin Yitong, the biological daughter of this body.
She must have been so panicked and crying because he was unconscious. So, his first task was to calm her down and make her feel better.
He opened his arms and hugged the little girl. "Tongtong, be good. Daddy is fine. I was just sleeping. Don't worry."
"But, but," Lin Yitong sobbed, "Tongtong saw Daddy in so much pain, and no matter how much I called, you wouldn't wake up. Tongtong was so afraid that Daddy would leave her."
"How could I?" Lin Qirong's heart ached. This girl was so sensitive. He hugged her tighter. "How could Daddy ever leave Tongtong? You are Daddy's treasure. I will always, always be with you."
"Really?" The little girl looked up at him with hopeful eyes.
"Really, if I lie, I'll be a puppy," Lin Qirong said affectionately, tapping her nose. "Do you want to pinky promise?"
"Sure, sure!" Lin Yitong extended her thin little finger and said earnestly, "Daddy, you must always be with Tongtong. Don't go far away like Mommy did. Pinky promise, no breaking for a hundred years."
"Pinky promise, no breaking for a hundred years."
Lin Qirong extended his thumb and pinky-pledged with her. Seeing her thin little hand, he felt a pang of pain. How had he been a father before, to let his daughter be so thin?
And her mother had gone far away?
Damn, his memories were a mess, and he needed to sort them out. Since he was going to live in this world with this body, it was best to understand the situation as soon as possible.
Lin Yitong finally stopped crying and smiled, content as long as her daddy was with her.
"Crying and laughing, a yellow dog pees." Lin Qirong said with a smile.
"That's not true." Lin Yitong squirmed in his arms, pouting.
But her face lit up with a radiant smile, like a blooming flower, and Lin Qirong couldn't help but feel happy too.
No matter what, he had come to this world and become the father of this little girl, and they would rely on each other.
Since he was here, he needed to make her happy first.
"Ding."
The system's voice sounded in his mind.
"Urgent mission completed. Reward: 500 Dad Points, one starter pack. Please check."
Finally, Lin Qirong sighed in relief. Then he heard two growls, one big and one small.
"That's my stomach." Lin Qirong and Lin Yitong said in unison, then looked at each other and laughed.
"I'm hungry." Lin Yitong looked at Lin Qirong with a pitiful expression.
"This... this..."
Lin Qirong scratched his head. He used to just order takeout when he was hungry, but what about this little girl?
"Maybe we can order takeout?" he suggested tentatively.
"But, Daddy," Lin Yitong said with wide, innocent eyes, "We don't have any money, do we? How can we order takeout?"
"Besides, takeout isn't tasty at all."
She pouted, looking a bit aggrieved.
She really wanted to eat something delicious.
"Ah, that's right..."
No money for takeout? This was a tough start.
Lin Qirong was troubled, but seeing her little face, he nodded.
"I'll check the kitchen to see what I can make. Don't worry, I won't let you go hungry."
