In the height of summer, the heat was unbearable.
Although the night was not as scorching as the day, it was even more stifling.
The men of Xiaowakou Village were accustomed to taking a few laps in the clear river at the village entrance before bed to cool off.
The women, however, had to wait until the men were done before they could wash.
Of course, there were some who were too shy and could only scoop a basin of water to wash in the courtyard.
As a bachelor in the village, Lin Shan would never miss this opportunity. He always hid in the grass on the opposite bank of the river, waiting quietly for the women to come and bathe.
But tonight, the weather was not on his side. Dark clouds obscured the moonlight, and the earth was pitch black.
"Damn the heavens! I wasted an hour in the water for nothing!" Lin Shan cursed, then swam to the shore far away and walked home.
As he passed a small courtyard, he suddenly heard the sound of water splashing from inside the wall.
"This is Xinghua's house. Could it be her taking a bath?" Lin Shan felt a sudden urge.
Xinghua was a famous beauty in the surrounding area, with fair skin, a beautiful face, and a tall, slender figure. Her eyes, like spring water, could make a man's bones turn to jelly with just one glance.
Since she married into Xiaowakou Village, she had become the dream lover of all the men in the village.
Although she had given birth to a child in the past two years, her body had become even more beautiful and alluring.
The charm of a mature woman was the most lethal to a man like Lin Shan, who had never tasted the pleasures of the flesh.
Thinking of Xinghua's beauty, Lin Shan couldn't resist and climbed up the wall, muttering to himself, "Just one look, just one look..."
But at that moment, he suddenly remembered his grandfather's words before he died: "Do not refrain from doing good just because it is small, and do not do evil just because it is small. Grandfather does not expect you to be outstanding, but only hopes that you can be a good person."
Lin Shan's movement of climbing the wall stopped.
The surge of blood from his impulse cooled down instantly.
"Boom!" Suddenly, a thunderclap echoed in the sky.
Immediately, a strange blue lightning bolt struck Lin Shan, making him scream in pain as he fell off the wall.
"Who? Who's out there?" Xinghua, who was bathing in the courtyard, immediately shouted in shame and anger.
Lin Shan didn't dare to hesitate and quickly got up from the ground, limping away in a panic.
He ran all the way home and closed the door before he let out a long sigh.
"Damn! Is a little thing like this enough to get struck by lightning? No, I need to have a drink to calm down!"
Lin Shan picked up a bottle of liquor, poured a full glass, and drank it down in one gulp.
"Ah..." Lin Shan smacked his lips. The warmth in his throat made him feel better, but one side of his body was still numb.
He walked to the door and looked at the sky, which was still hot and humid but showed no signs of rain.
The lightning today was a bit strange!
"Damn! My phone!" Lin Shan hurriedly took his phone out of his pocket.
This phone was the result of a month of hard work in the mountains, collecting herbs, and saving money by living frugally. It was the first time he had brought it out, and if it was damaged by the lightning, he would be heartbroken.
Lin Shan carefully checked it several times and was relieved to find it undamaged: "Thank goodness it's not broken... Hey, why has the WeChat icon changed?"
He saw a strange lightning symbol in the upper right corner of the WeChat icon.
Curious, he opened WeChat and found a red envelope from a stranger.
Even more interesting was the message: "Grandpa, I am your great-grandson Lin Xiaobai, sending you a message from 200 years in the future. If you receive this, please send some food immediately! I'm about to starve to death!"
"Someone claiming to be my grandson!" Lin Shan laughed, thinking it was a prank.
But driven by curiosity, he opened the red envelope.
Suddenly, a small, bright diamond appeared in his palm.
"What... the hell is this?" Lin Shan looked at the diamond in his hand and couldn't help but exclaim.
After a long while, he came to his senses and quickly checked WeChat. The lightning symbol on the icon was gone, and when he opened WeChat, it showed, "You have received a red envelope from Lin Xiaobai."
"Wow... Could the diamond have been sent through the red envelope?" Lin Shan reread the message in surprise.
After a moment of thought, he sent a message back, but it failed to send.
After several attempts, Lin Shan thought for a moment and decided to send some food as the other person had requested.
Whether it would work or not, he would try.
Lin Shan went to the kitchen, took a few steamed buns, and clicked on the red envelope. The phone screen showed a different interface: "Please place low-value items, limit of ten!"
"Interesting!" Lin Shan grabbed the buns, and the next moment, the buns appeared in the red envelope, showing a count of one.
He repeated this process, placing five large steamed buns in the red envelope, and wrote in the message area, "What's going on?"
He clicked send, and the red envelope was successfully sent!
However, the other person did not immediately claim it. After waiting for over an hour, Lin Shan was so tired that he fell asleep.
He didn't know how long he had been sleeping when he was woken by a loud banging on his front door.
"Who is it?" Lin Shan shouted irritably with his eyes still closed.
"It's me! Open the door quickly!" A familiar female voice came from outside the courtyard.
"Xinghua?" Lin Shan sat up with a start, rubbed his face, and rushed out in slippers.
Opening the door, Lin Shan breathed in the pleasant scent of Xinghua's bath and smiled, "It's Xinghua! What brings you here so early in the morning?"
Xinghua glared at Lin Shan, said nothing, and walked straight into the courtyard, heading for the house.
Lin Shan quickly followed her inside, tidying up the mess and apologizing with a smile, "My house is a mess, I'm sorry, Xinghua. Please sit down!"
Xinghua ignored him, staring at Lin Shan with a cold, angry face, and demanded, "Stop grinning at me! Did you spy on me while I was bathing last night?"
"How could I..." Lin Shan shook his head vigorously.
Xinghua threw a tank top at Lin Shan's head, furious, "Is this your shirt? I found it at the base of my wall. Are you still going to deny it?"
Lin Shan grabbed it and immediately thought, "Oh no, this is bad. Even if it's not true, it will be considered true."
He inwardly cursed but put on a relaxed face, laughing, "Xinghua, one shirt doesn't prove anything. I was at home all night, I didn't go out. This shirt must have been dragged out by my dog. You know, my dog Da Huang is very mischievous and likes to carry things around..."
"Trying to make the dog take the blame? Fine, I'll go to the village chief and let him decide!" Xinghua said and started to walk out.
"Wait, Xinghua, don't be in a hurry, let's talk this out." Lin Shan panicked and quickly grabbed Xinghua's arm, smiling apologetically.
His reputation in the village was already not good, and if this incident became public, he would be even less popular.
Especially the old village chief, who was very strict with him. If he found out about this, he would surely beat him to death with a stick.
