Chapter 6

If Magritt didn't want it, what would happen... I don't even want to think about it.

At that moment, Magritt's stomach conveniently growled.

Magritt, feeling hungry, always remembered the taste of Japanese food.

(Corruption magic... corruption, corruption, so what does that mean?)

As Magritt thought about the corruption magic, Ray's face grew increasingly stern, and she looked like she was about to cry.

"Miss Adel, why did you betray me!"

"..."

"I told you many times that you wouldn't be happy following a man like that... I thought we were about to escape this life, why! Damn it!"

Ray, who worked in the mansion and was a colleague of sorts, had a strong sense of ambition and a calculating personality. She always looked down on Magritt, and taking care of her like this was probably humiliating for her. Ray was the daughter of a fallen baron and could use a bit of magic.

It's not surprising that she looked down on Magritt, who couldn't use magic at all. Despite being mocked by Ray for a long time, being treated like a lady now was a bit awkward.

Before she knew it, Magritt's orange-brown hair had been neatly combed and smoothed with oil. Her sunburned skin and rough fingertips couldn't be fixed in a week. She applied cream to make them a bit better while listening to Ray's talk.

"I have no intention of following you! What are you going to do from now on?"

"Doesn't matter, but what are you going to do?"

"Of course, I'll look for a new job! I was counting on Miss Adel, but I'm tired of it. Anywhere is better than here."

"Maybe so."

"I'll get out of this place as soon as possible...!"

She had doted on Adel like a sister and had high hopes for her. If she could follow Adel to her new home as a lady's maid, her position would be secure. Besides, the working conditions here were far from good. Ray seemed to be planning to leave the Nefashal family now that Adel was gone.

"Maybe you're lucky to be leaving this house, in a way?"

Magritt nodded, "Yeah, maybe."

"I don't know how you can endure such treatment from Sir, Madam, and Miss Adel. Are you crazy? I would have run away long ago..."

Ray was venting all the pent-up frustration she had. Magritt listened silently. It seemed that Adel's impulsive actions would cause turmoil in the Nefashal family.

Magritt felt like her organs were about to burst out of the unfamiliar corset. Wearing a heavy dress over the pannier made her feel so restricted that she felt nauseous. The idea of smiling and attending parties or eating meals like this was unimaginable for Magritt.

(So uncomfortable... I really don't want to be a noble lady)

Magritt sighed and headed towards the carriage when called by the Nefashal family. This might be the first time she had interacted and spoken with the Nefashal family in the past week.

"Just don't make any mistakes, just be quiet! If it's discovered that you have no magic, we will...! You must keep it hidden! Or make it look like you died from corruption magic! Got it?"

"Don't cause us any trouble! From today, you have no connection with the Nefashal family! Understand! Say you understand!"
