Following Tong'er to her bedroom, Feng Jueyu lifted the curtain at the door, and a captivating scent of a young girl wafted out. Entering the room, he saw Tong'er sitting by the bed, tears streaming down her face. He couldn't help but sigh.

This little girl was naturally beautiful, gentle, and considerate, both sensible and likable. How could Feng Jueyu not like her?

In his previous life, Feng Jueyu, due to his profession, dared not fall in love, but that didn't mean he was heartless. He had merely concealed his true self and missed many good opportunities for marriage. Over time, he had developed a habit of emotionally avoiding the present.

He understood Tong'er's thoughts. For a young girl who had always prioritized her family and knew how to take care of the elderly, Tong'er had never experienced true romantic love. Suddenly, someone as excellent as Feng Jueyu appeared, and it was only natural that she couldn't help but pour all her emotions into him.

However, the person she had fallen for was about to have a family, and his wife was a noble lady from a prestigious family. The stark contrast made her feel a strong sense of inferiority.

They had spent a considerable amount of time together over the past half month. Feng Jueyu was not a block of wood; how could he not know what Tong'er was thinking? She liked him but couldn't express it, precisely because of her inferiority complex.

Looking at her delicate and pitiable figure, Feng Jueyu's resolve grew stronger. "What's the point? Our Tong'er is so considerate and sensible. It would be foolish not to want her."

Thinking this, Feng Jueyu quietly walked to Tong'er's side and sat down, saying softly, "Tong'er, why are you so sad? Did Old Gongyang say something to upset you? Don't worry, Big Brother Feng will stand up for you. I'll tear his mouth apart later."

Listening to Feng Jueyu's playful words, Li Tong'er couldn't help but laugh through her tears. She quickly wiped the tears from her eyes and said, "No, Tong'er is just... just worried about Big Brother Feng..."

Feng Jueyu patted her back, comforting her, "Don't worry. You know me, don't you? I wouldn't do anything without being sure. Big Brother Feng still wants to live to see you get married."

"Big Brother Feng," Li Tong'er turned around, her emotions finally breaking free, "Please don't say that anymore. Tong'er doesn't want to get married."

"How can that be?" Feng Jueyu chuckled, "All girls grow up and get married."

Li Tong'er, thinking Feng Jueyu didn't understand her feelings, became flustered and blurted out, "Tong'er won't get married. Tong'er only likes Big Brother Feng." After saying this, she realized she had gone too far. Wasn't she openly competing with Miss Shangguan for a husband? "Li Tong'er, how could you do such an immoral thing?"

Seeing Feng Jueyu staring at her, Li Tong'er's face turned red like a ripe peach, making him hesitate to tease her further.

However, since she had spoken her mind, Li Tong'er's courage grew. She quickly said, "Big Brother Feng, that's not what I meant. Tong'er just can't help but think, what will happen after leaving Big Brother Feng? Tong'er doesn't dare to think about it, so she doesn't want to get married. She doesn't even dare to hope that Big Brother Feng will... do anything... Tong'er isn't as excellent as Miss Shangguan. Tong'er just wants to say that she is willing to follow Big Brother Feng for life, even as a maid. Big Brother Feng, please promise me, don't get hurt. Let Tong'er serve you in the future, okay?"

Feng Jueyu looked at Tong'er, his heart melting. This girl was so considerate and sensible. It felt like a sin to refuse her...

"Stupid girl," Feng Jueyu couldn't resist pulling Li Tong'er into his arms...

This action surprised Li Tong'er. She instinctively wanted to resist but found herself unable to. She let Feng Jueyu hold her, pressing her against his broad chest, clutching the edge of her clothes like a frightened rabbit, allowing Feng Jueyu to do as he pleased.

"Stupid girl, how could our Tong'er be inferior to anyone? You are gentle, considerate, generous, and sensible, far better than many others. How could Big Brother let you go? Tong'er, rest assured, Big Brother will protect you and won't let anyone bully you..."

"Big Brother Feng."

Emotions finally found an outlet. Li Tong'er never imagined that the person she secretly loved would accept her. At that moment, her heart was filled with nothing but happiness. She knew that being in his arms was warm, comfortable, and safe. Even in the next life, she would be willing to stay this way forever.

Tears dripped from her eyes, quickly soaking her clothes. Feng Jueyu, feeling the warmth, held her tightly, their embrace deep and lasting.

For Feng Jueyu, this was his first promise in this life and his previous one.

He knew that a man's promise was important and must be kept.

This promise was not a result of emotional release but a deep love and commitment to the person in his arms.

At that moment, Feng Jueyu decided not to be a lonely assassin but to be a man who could provide safety and the happiness Tong'er deserved.

Li Tong'er wanted to stay like this forever, but after her emotions were released, reality set in. She pulled away from Feng Jueyu's embrace and asked, "Big Brother Feng, will we be betraying Miss Shangguan by doing this?"

Feng Jueyu, who was just getting a bit passionate, was immediately cooled down by her words: "Why would we? We haven't done anything."

"But Miss Shangguan is your fiancée. Tong'er feels that what we're doing is wrong," Tong'er said, but her body was still tightly pressed against Feng Jueyu, clearly not matching her words.

This girl is truly kind, Feng Jueyu sighed, trying to reassure her, "Tong'er, you misunderstand. Although I and Shangguan Ruomeng were betrothed from a young age, we never developed any feelings. Everyone in the Shangguan family knows she doesn't like me. In that case, there's no question of right or wrong. Remember, you have your own strengths, and you are not inferior to anyone. Don't be so insecure, okay?"

"But... but..."

"No more buts." Feng Jueyu knew her inferiority complex was too strong and needed to boost her confidence. He had an idea and said, "Tong'er, Big Brother Feng has a task for you. Write a letter and have Yuan Shan deliver it to the Shangguan residence, inviting Miss Shangguan to our grand opening ceremony. Okay?"

Although Tong'er had limited experience, she was not unintelligent. Hearing Feng Jueyu's words, she immediately understood his intention.

"Big Brother Feng, you want me to use the name of Jishi Fang?"

Feng Jueyu corrected her, "More specifically, use the name of the chief manager of Jishi Fang. Jishi Fang will eventually belong to you, and you will be the chief manager here, not inferior to Shangguan Ruomeng in any way. Understand?"

Hearing this, Tong'er was overjoyed and nodded vigorously, throwing herself back into Feng Jueyu's arms, "Thank you, Big Brother Feng."

Feng Jueyu, of course, would not take advantage of the situation. After all, Tong'er was still young, and he felt guilty about making her a woman too early.

After embracing for a while, they finally separated. Tong'er went to write the letter, and Feng Jueyu was about to return to the Shangguan residence. Before leaving, he gave Xiao Yuanshan some instructions about the reopening and informed Ruyu Pavilion that he wouldn't be able to come the next day. Then he returned to the Shangguan residence.

...

The next morning, as the first light of dawn appeared, Feng Jueyu finished washing up and was about to head to Jishi Fang in the south of the city when he saw Shangguan Ruomeng and Xing'er standing in the courtyard.

Shangguan Ruomeng was frowning as she read a letter, while Xing'er was saying something. Feng Jueyu couldn't help but smile, thinking that Tong'er had done a good job, and the timing of the letter was perfect.

Approaching them, he heard the two women talking:

"Miss, this Jishi Fang is strange. They helped us a lot with the Shangguan family's affairs, and now they are inviting us to their ceremony. I think there's something fishy about this," Xing'er said.

Shangguan Ruomeng replied, "I also feel something is off, but we've already investigated Jishi Fang and found nothing suspicious. The only thing that puzzles me is that when the Xu family tried to monopolize all the pharmacies in the south of the city, only Jishi Fang didn't close down."

Xing'er added, "Miss, I've heard that Jishi Fang was haunted by the ghost of the Li family's ancestor, who revealed the mastermind behind their downfall, thus saving Jishi Fang. Miss, that place is not clean; we shouldn't go."

"That's not possible. Jishi Fang has done a favor for the Shangguan family, and it would be impolite not to go," Shangguan Ruomeng said.

Feng Jueyu walked over, listening and smiling to himself. He asked, "Sister Ruomeng, so early to enjoy the flowers in the courtyard?"

"Son-in-law..." Xing'er bowed deeply.

Shangguan Ruomeng lifted her head, looking a bit tired, probably from worrying about the Shangguan family's affairs. She smiled, holding the letter, "Ruomeng has no heart for flowers. It seems Big Brother Feng is in a good mood."

This girl is still holding a grudge over the Shangguan family's affairs, Feng Jueyu thought, chuckling dryly and not responding. He stared at the letter in her hand, "Hmm? What's that?"

Shangguan Ruomeng sighed, "An invitation to a ceremony."

"Oh? Really? Who has such influence to invite our Miss?" Feng Jueyu chuckled.

Shangguan Ruomeng, of course, didn't suspect that Feng Jueyu was behind Jishi Fang. She explained, "A new friend, not from a prestigious family, but who has done a favor for the Shangguan family. We can't refuse this invitation."

She then said to Xing'er, "Xing'er, prepare some gifts and a carriage. We'll leave now."

"Yes, Miss..."

After giving the instructions, Shangguan Ruomeng turned to Feng Jueyu, "Big Brother Feng, are you interested in coming along?"

Perfect! Feng Jueyu thought, wondering how she would react when she found out Jishi Fang was selling first-class golden wound medicine. Am I being a bit too much?

Thinking this, Feng Jueyu didn't refuse, "Sure, I have nothing to do today, so I'll come along."

PS: Regarding emotional aspects, I know I'm not very good at it, but a successful novel needs emotional depth and complex, subtle relationships between characters. In my previous two books, I didn't do a good job with this, but I will focus more on it in this book to improve this weakness.
