Chapter 9.1

4 min read974 words

Gu Jianan fell asleep crying within Ye Chen’s arms. When he had finally fallen asleep peacefully, Ye Chen pulled the blanket over on top of him, and then returned to her room.

“Report all the current values.”

She requested this from the system while she took a bath. Rows of data quickly flashed into her head.

Target: Gu Jianan

Favorability: 30

Progress: 10%

Blackening value: 1%

Upon seeing this value, Ye Chen was befuddled. Her eyes widened as she said inconceivably, “30?! His favorability is only 30?!! Did you f—ing get it wrong 38?! There is no way, definitely no way that it is only 30!!”

“The system rarely makes mistakes.” The system said with some pity, “Host, you should face reality. You really don’t have as much charm as you think you do.”

“This is impossible, absolutely impossible. I’m the white moonlight¹ within his heart! You see how docile and obedient he is with me? He even gets jealous! How could it be only 30!”

¹TN: First Love

Ye Chen pressed her hand against her face, making a face that looked like she was about to collapse, “No, impossible, this is absolutely impossible!”

“Host,” the system felt like it was almost unable to keep up its smile. It was probably an African to have binded with such an insane host.² In order to keep up with this host, it had almost become insane itself. It struggled to tightly grasp its own sanity as it slowly said, “Do I need to explain it to you?”

²TN: Very racist joke/remark here but it is an internet lingo that is used to describe people who have terrible luck so their face would be black (not literally but like you would have a dark expression type of thing)…like an African…

Hearing such a serious response from the system, Ye Chen knew that these values must be within reason, so she walked out while wiping her hair dry, sat cross-legged on the bed, and said in frustration, “The target’s dependency on the host is more than his feelings towards the host. This type of dependency includes both material and mental dependence. It has nothing to do with the target’s favorability towards the host themself. To put it simply, everything that he is doing now, whether it be being kind towards you or being jealous, is all because he is just afraid of losing the life that he currently has.”

“He doesn’t really have any interest in you personally.”

“He is just interested in my money.”

Ye Chen decisively continued, and then sighed, “To think that even I am living a life of where I’m at a loss of whether this person actually loves me or my money. This is so luxurious, so decadent, so full of capitalism.”

The system was a bit speechless, “I thought you would be sad?”

“I’m very sad!” Ye Chen smiled evilly, “I’m so sad that I want to beat him to death.”

System,”……”

One person and one system both looked at each other silently for a moment. The system said, “Don’t be discouraged, the villain is a human after all. Just keep raising him, as you raise him more and more…”

“He’ll just stab me to death?”

Ye Chen continued.

System, “……”

There was no way to continue this chat anymore.

The system said softly, “Dear host, please turn off the light and cover yourself with the blanket. Quiet down and close your eyes.”

Ye Chen was a little tired and didn’t bother talking back. Following the system’s words, after she turned off the lights and closed her eyes, she suddenly remembered something.

Both Gu Jianan’s parents have died, does he no longer need to find an adopter? Moreover, Gu Jianan’s parents have died and Zhou Yucheng knew of Gu Jianan’s past experiences and that she was helping Gu Jianan find an adopter. Would he suspect that Gu Jianan had done it?!

Ye Chen abruptly opened her eyes, rushed to Gu Jianan’s room, jumped directly onto Gu Jianan’s bed, and pushed him as she urged, “Gu Jianan, Gu Jianan!”

Gu Jianan woke up in shock from his dream and saw a pair of watery eyes in front of him.

The light from outside of the door fell on her face, making her eyes appear particularly bright in the night.

Gu Jianan was stunned before he heard the other party say, “How did you think of killing your parents? How did you kill them? Be specific!”

Gu Jianan pursed his lips and sat up from under the blanket. He saw Ye Chen kneeling on his bed in her pajamas, looking at him seriously.

After all, he was already 16 years old. Having such a girl sitting charmingly on his bed in her pajamas, he couldn’t help but feel a little awkward, so he shifted a bit to the side and said, “Do you really not mind?”

“What would I mind?”

“That I killed people.”

For a moment, Ye Chen didn’t know what to say.

In her own heart, she thinks that killing is wrong, but for Gu Jianan, she did not think that it was a wrong choice.

Perhaps the method was wrong, but this should not be a sin that he should bear throughout his life.

His mother gave birth to him, but she did not treat him kindly. He lived like a pig or a dog in that family and endured abuse and severe beatings for a long time. Even after he escaped, that family desperately wanted to drag him back into his past life, squeezing out all that he was worth until nothing remained.

Ye Chen asked herself honestly; if she was the 16-year-old Gu Jianan, maybe she would not have done much better.

But she couldn’t encourage him. It was wrong to kill. Gu Jianan lived in a lawful society.
