Chapter 10

To me, the world was a very difficult place to live in.

Until I met this person.

When I was a child, my parents, who only had one horn, only fed me once every three days.

My younger brother, who had two horns, was allowed to eat twice a day.

In the village of our clan, I was always ostracized. The children would beat me, and sometimes even adults would hit me, saying, "I hit you, and now the children are hurt."

Always hungry, I was always at their mercy.

I was so often beaten that I now marvel at how I didn't die back then.

As I grew older, I learned why I was being oppressed.

And I also learned that there was no way to solve it.

A weak, scrawny one-horned ogre. For ogres, who revere strength, I had every reason to be an outcast. Thinking that way, I must still be an ogre.

After some time, I left the village of my clan.

No one came to see me off.

I had no intention of ever returning here. I didn't plan to see my parents or my brother again. So it was just as well.

But for some reason, tears streamed down my face.

After that, I traveled to various places in the Demon Continent.

The best thing about starting my journey was that I could eat as much as I wanted.

In the forest, there were monsters everywhere, and I could find fruits and vegetables growing wild.

My body finally grew to the size of an average ogre.

Among the various demon races, there were those who treated me warmly. But still, being a one-horned ogre, I was often looked down upon.

One day, I learned that a Demon King was staying in the town where I was, and I decided to meet him.

I thought that even though I was a weak ogre, I was stronger than other demon races and could be of use.

The Demon King, upon seeing me, said:

"Since I was told that an ogre wanted to join my ranks, I came here, but you're a one-horned ogre?

My subordinates include demon races higher than ogres. I'm not in such a desperate situation that I need to add a one-horned ogre to my ranks."

He laughed at me. Such insults were a daily occurrence for me, so I immediately left.

But still, tears streamed down my face.

Was I an unnecessary existence in this world?

I had thought about it many times since I was a child. Each time, I tried not to think about it.

But...

To me, the world was a very difficult place to live in.

I decided my next destination would be "The Demon King's Blood Tears."

This place, facing the sea, was where goblins and orcs lived a meager life, and there were no other creatures.

Perhaps because of the cold, few plants grew, and the land was covered in red soil.

Why did I come to such a place?

I was probably in a state of despair. I had brought enough food to last a few days, but it would soon run out here.

Should I bow my head to the goblins or orcs and ask to live with them? But they, who often lacked food, would not welcome me with open arms.

Especially since I was a one-horned ogre. They would only despise me, not welcome me.

Suddenly, a group of Red Caps appeared before me. Red Caps are monsters with bright red manes.

Some humans confuse demon races with monsters, but that is a big mistake. Demon races are born from parents and can have children, but monsters naturally arise from places called magic pools where magic tends to settle. They have no reason and attack any living thing they see, making them very troublesome creatures.

Red Caps walk on two legs but have no intelligence and are violent and cruel. However, as individuals, they are not very strong. But if a large group attacks, an entire village can be wiped out.

There were about twenty of them.

I readied the wooden club I had made.

The group of Red Caps in front of me was not that large. But if a goblin or orc village were attacked by them, there would be significant casualties.

For their sake, I decided to fight.

Perhaps if they knew what I had done, they would welcome me warmly. That was part of my calculation.

The orc village had been devastated.

The Red Caps I saw there were apparently only part of the group, and many more were ravaging the village.

The orcs were fleeing in all directions. Seeing this, I could not help them.

There were just too many Red Caps.

It was clearly not the number that naturally appeared in "The Demon King's Blood Tears." They must have been driven here from nearby forests or mountains after losing in the struggle for survival.

I could only stand there in shock.

At that moment, a magic storm, which is usually impossible, occurred.

A magic storm is a type of magic disaster where a lot of magic power blows like a storm. During it, magic cannot be handled properly, and spells cannot be cast. Moreover, many monsters are born after a magic disaster, so it is usually avoided.

But this time, it was a blessing.

The creatures most affected by a magic disaster are not living beings or the land, but the monsters themselves.

For naturally born demon races, the pressure of the wind might be felt, but for monsters, it is a fatal blow. Monsters, born from magic, are shaken to their very existence by a magic disaster.

After the intense magic storm, which lasted for several minutes, only the dead bodies of Red Caps and orcs remained.

I just stood there in shock.

No, I had let many orcs die.

How could I face the goblins now?

Coming here, I had truly lost all my options.

I didn't want to return to the Demon Continent. If I went to the True Continent, I would lose my life. At best, I would become a slave. What should I do?
