Chapter 8

5 min read1,291 words

The scene was chaotic, with Zhang Xiu's troops chasing Cao's forces everywhere.

Cao Shuo, accompanied by two guards, made his way through the chaos.

They were dressed in the armor of Zhang Xiu's troops and encountered no resistance along the way.

"Caocao's horse is dead, catch up with him!" As they were walking, Cao Shuo heard a shout, and immediately saw a group of Zhang Xiu's troops rushing in one direction.

Cao Shuo exchanged a glance with the two guards and followed the Zhang Xiu troops, chasing after Caocao.

As they were walking, the situation in front became chaotic again.

Cao Shuo and the two guards slowed down, allowing the Zhang Xiu troops to rush past them.

The chaos didn't last long, and soon the people in front continued to move forward.

As they passed the place where the chaos had occurred, Cao Shuo saw the bodies of over a hundred Cao troops lying on the ground.

One of the bodies, wearing bronze armor, lay face up with eyes wide open in defiance.

When Cao Shuo arrived in this world, Caocao had already moved with Zou Shi to the camp outside the city.

He had not yet met his adoptive father or any of the military leaders.

However, the residual memories in his mind gave him some impressions of the Cao family.

The young general lying on the ground, already dead, was his elder brother, Cao Ang.

According to what Cao Shuo knew, Cao Ang had died in battle after giving his horse to Caocao.

The chaos earlier must have been caused by Cao Ang giving up his horse to block the Zhang Xiu troops for Caocao!

As he passed by Cao Ang, Cao Shuo barely paused.

Since he had taken over Cao Shuo's body, his soul was not directly related to the Cao family, and he had no emotional connection to Cao Ang.

Although he felt a slight sadness deep inside, it was more due to the body's instinct rather than his true feelings.

People were dying on the battlefield all the time; what he needed to consider most was how to survive!

The Zhang Xiu troops chasing Caocao gradually slowed down. Mixed among the enemy, Cao Shuo deduced that Caocao must have already moved far away.

At least he had already escaped the range where the Zhang Xiu troops could see him.

Otherwise, these people would not have abandoned the opportunity for merit.

"Spread out and search everywhere, don't let Caocao escape!" A voice came from not far away.

The Zhang Xiu troops scattered.

Looking ahead, Cao Shuo did not see Caocao.

The two guards came closer, and one of them whispered, "Young Master, what should we do?"

"Head northwest," Cao Shuo said.

Following a group of Zhang Xiu troops heading northwest, Cao Shuo and his group galloped forward.

The number of people in front gradually decreased.

As the search area expanded, more and more Zhang Xiu troops left the group, heading in what they believed to be the correct direction.

After two to three hours, only six or seven Zhang Xiu troops were heading in the same direction as Cao Shuo.

The leading officer, assuming Cao Shuo and his group were comrades, glanced at them but didn't ask any questions.

After chasing for another ten miles, the officer suddenly ordered them to stop.

He dismounted and examined the hoof prints on the ground, shouting to Cao Shuo and his group, "There's someone ahead, and his horse is injured. He can't go far!"

The officer's judgment aligned with Cao Shuo's.

The hoof prints in the snow were very scattered, with marks of the hooves scraping the ground every two to three steps.

The snow was thick and fluffy, not very slippery.

The only explanation for the hooves scraping the ground was that the horse was injured.

There was no blood on the snow, indicating that the injury had been for some time, and the blood had already clotted.

The officer led Cao Shuo and his group along the hoof prints.

Before long, they indeed saw a person on horseback.

The person was wearing the armor of a Cao soldier, riding a tall horse, and struggling to move forward.

The horse had several arrows stuck in its body and almost fell with every few steps.

"Go!" the officer shouted.

Cao Shuo and his group, following behind, urged their horses to speed up.

The person in front heard the hoof sounds from behind and turned to look.

Seeing the Zhang Xiu troops chasing him, he was startled, and his horse let out a mournful cry and fell.

Falling into the snow, he quickly rolled over and tried to run.

How could human legs be faster than a horse?

Soon, Cao Shuo and the Zhang Xiu troops caught up.

Surrounding the Cao soldier, Cao Shuo felt a wave of relief when he saw his face.

They had been chasing for a long time to find Caocao, and unexpectedly, it was so easy!

The person surrounded was indeed Caocao.

Covered in snow, even his beard was encrusted with ice, Caocao looked very disheveled.

The leading Zhang Xiu officer did not recognize Caocao.

Feeling disappointed that he had only caught a Cao soldier, he raised his long sword and rode forward.

If he killed Caocao with one sword, the Cao family would be completely finished.

The Cao family's downfall would bring no benefit to Cao Shuo, as his fate was now tied to the Cao family.

He quickly shouted, "Wait!"

The officer turned and asked, "What's wrong?"

"He can't be killed!" Cao Shuo stepped forward, giving Caocao a meaningful look, and said to the officer, "I saw him when the Cao army entered Wan city; he is Caocao!"

Recognizing Cao Shuo, Caocao was initially relieved, but Cao Shuo's words immediately made his heart race.

A father knows his son best; his second son had been weak and sickly since childhood.

Pretending to be a Zhang Xiu soldier and secretly rescuing him after his capture was possible, but engaging in a direct conflict with so many Zhang Xiu soldiers, Caocao did not think Cao Shuo had any chance of winning!

Yet, Cao Shuo's words immediately revealed his identity, shocking Caocao!

"Are you sure he is Caocao?" The officer looked at Cao Shuo with disbelief.

"Absolutely," Cao Shuo said, "I even took a closer look at him at the time!"

"I thought we were just catching an old soldier, but we actually captured Caocao!" The officer was overjoyed and shouted to the soldiers who came with him, "Tie up Caocao!"

Several Zhang Xiu soldiers dismounted and ran towards Caocao.

Just as they were about to act, Cao Shuo drew his sword and, taking advantage of the officer's focus on Caocao, struck the officer's neck.

The officer's head fell like a ball into the snow, and the sudden event stunned the Zhang Xiu soldiers.

Before they could react, Cao Shuo and the two guards had already charged forward.

With a prepared mind against an unprepared one, the Zhang Xiu soldiers didn't even have time to draw their weapons and were cut down.

After killing these people, Cao Shuo dismounted and helped Caocao up, saying, "Father, I have come late, please forgive me!"

"If it weren't for you, I would have lost my life!" Caocao said, "You have only done me a great service, how can there be any fault?"

"The enemy is chasing us closely, please change into their armor, and we must leave quickly!" Cao Shuo urged.

Caocao, after all, was a great leader.

During the escape, he could wear the armor of his own soldiers, and naturally, he could wear the enemy's.

Soon, Caocao changed his clothes, and Cao Shuo helped him onto the horse.
