Li Nanjue gazed deeply at Zhan Jiayin. Li Xiao’s words had caused an unavoidable effect on Li Nanjue. Was Ren Shaotang really that important to Zhan Jiayin? So important that Zhan Jiayin would pick him over Li Xiao?

Zhan Jiayin felt like she was sucking on a piece of ginger. Reaching out, she latched onto Li Nanjue’s sleeve. “Nanjue, I didn’t mean it like that.”

“It happened so suddenly, so I’m a bit overwhelmed.”

Taking a deep breath, Zhan Jiayin said, “If Shaotang really did that, then I’ll deal with the situation without any bias.”

Upon hearing this, Li Nanjue’s expression relaxed. “I hope that he didn’t do it, too. Xiao Xiao has been through a lot. So please, even if she acts rashly, take it easy on her.”

Zhan Jiayin forced a smile, but thought to herself, “Haven’t I done enough for Li Xiao? Even an outsider like Ren Shaotang could see that I’d been wronged. But the man I love turns a blind eye.”

Zhan Jiayin thought it might be time to bring Qianfei home. When Li Xiao was the only child in the house, Li Nanjue was always biased towards her.

Absentmindedly, Zhan Jiayin sat on the sofa. By the time she had regained her sense, Li Nanjue had already disappeared. She couldn’t help but wonder if Li Nanjue had gone to confront Ren Shaotang.

If I happen to get involved accidentally…

The more Zhan Jiayin thought about it, the more restless her heart became. It felt as though her head was splitting open. Ever since Li Xiao had awoken, Zhan Jiayin felt like she had suffered more than usual.

Suddenly, Zhan Jiayin’s eyes landed on the recording pen that rested on the table. She couldn’t help but stare at it. Unexpectedly, Li Xiao had left in such a hurry that she’d left it on the table.

Zhan Jiayin’s hand seemed to have a mind of its own as it lifted the recording. Glancing around, it looked like all the maids had retreated when the family was arguing. Only she remained in the living room. As Zhan Jiayin took a deep breath, a war raged in her head. After a while, a determined look appeared on her face. Trembling, she deleted the recording.

Zhan Jiayin didn’t want to do this. But if she had just ignored it, Shaotang’s illustrious image would’ve come crashing down. She thought that he must’ve had a momentary lapse in judgment and was caught up in trying to protect her. Zhan Jiayin felt that her current action could be perceived as repayment for the help Shaotang gave her in the past.

In the future, Zhan Jiayin was determined to make it up to Li Xiao and have Shaotang apologize.

After the files were deleted, Zhan Jiayin let out a deep breath, only to find that her hands were clammy and wet.

When she heard the sound of a door opening upstairs, Zhan Jiayin subconsciously looked over and saw Li Xiao strolling down the stairs. She had already changed outfits and cleaned up her makeup.

Zhan Jiayin crammed the recorder under the sofa.

When Li Xiao descended, she looked around the room as though she were looking for something.

Upon seeing Li Xiao waste her energy, Zhan Jiayin’s originally sullen mood lightened up. “What are you looking for?”

Carelessly, Li Xiao asked, “Have you seen my recording pen?”

Zhan Jiayin said, “That recorder’s pretty important. Didn’t you take it up just now? I just left the room to get something. I haven’t seen it. Why don’t I help you look for it?”

Li Xiao’s fixated stare on Zhan Jiayin made Zhan Jiayin uncomfortable. Jiayin couldn’t help but feel like she was stripped naked in broad daylight, unable to hide anything.

A moment passed, and Li Xiao lightly smiled. “That’s OK. If I lost it, I lost it. Anyway, it’s not like it’s the only copy.”

Zhan Jiayin suddenly became nervous.

In the next second, Li Xiao opened her bag to show its contents packed with recording pens. “I still have these many recording pens left~”

Li Xiao was by no means foolish, and so of course, she came prepared. In reality, Li Xiao had stored copies of the recorder in other places as well. All she wanted to do was probe Zhan Jiayin a little. But she hadn’t thought that Zhan Jiayin would’ve been foolish enough to hide the recorder.

Frozen to the bone, Zhan Jiayin sucked in an icy breath.

“It’s just your luck! I snapped a nice picture just now. You care so deeply about Ren Shaotang. You’re even willing to lie to people for him. Now that’s something to be concerned about. The hat on my dad’s head certainly looks good~*” Li Xiao waved her phone in the air.

Zhan Jiayin’s heart dropped.
