Chapter 4 of 5

Chapter 4

4 min read986 words

The next day.

I was looking over the list of dungeons I had already cleared, thinking about where to go.

Honestly, if it’s just about efficiency, the Yuzunagi Dungeon is the best.

There, it’s possible to clear it in about 2 hours, and you can level up by 5.

If you do 5 laps in a day, that’s a 25-level increase.

However, there is one problem.

The Yuzunagi Dungeon is rich in labyrinth resources and is quite profitable, which is why many adventurers go there. I used to be one of them.

Because of this, there are many shops outside the dungeon, making it quite bustling.

With so many people around, there’s a risk that someone might witness me disappearing when I activate the dungeon transfer.

I’d rather avoid that if possible.

In that case, a place with fewer people like the Shion Dungeon would be better...

There, it’s possible to clear it in about an hour, and you can level up by 1.

Compared to the Yuzunagi Dungeon, the efficiency is somewhat lower.

Also, the labyrinth resources from the Shion Dungeon are hardly profitable, so I’d rather avoid it if I can.

"Then—this one, right?"

D-Rank Dungeon [Yumei Dungeon].

Despite being a D-Rank dungeon, the levels are relatively high, and it takes nearly 3 hours to clear.

In return, the level-up after clearing it is 7, which is slightly higher. Additionally, the magic stones you receive can be sold for around 10,000 yen.

If I do 3 laps, I’ll level up by 21 and earn 30,000 yen.

Furthermore, a characteristic of the Yumei Dungeon is that the experience points gained from monsters along the way are low, and the selling price of the labyrinth resources obtained inside is also low.

What would normally be considered a drawback is actually desirable for me now—meaning, it’s very unpopular among adventurers and unlikely to attract attention.

"It’s settled then."

After finishing my preparations, I headed to the Yumei Dungeon, which is about an hour away by train.

When I arrived at the Yumei Dungeon, it was as expected, not very popular.

Only one dungeon manager was checking the levels of adventurers challenging the dungeon at the gate.

There are level restrictions for D-Rank and above dungeons to prevent accidents inside.

For the Yumei Dungeon, the solo requirement is level 70, and the party average needs to be 50 or higher.

I hid a little away from the gate to avoid being noticed by the dungeon manager and used the dungeon transfer skill.

The transfer distance is 20 meters, and the activation time is ×3, which is 60 seconds.

After a minute of silence, the skill activated successfully, and I found myself inside the Yumei Dungeon.

"Well, let’s go."

Recalling the memory of when I cleared it about two months ago, I started moving forward.

There are three types of monsters that appear in the Yumei Dungeon, excluding the boss.

Goblins, Kobolds, and Gray Wolves, with the latter being the strongest.

However, since none of the monsters have attacks that cause status abnormalities, it’s quite easy for solo players.

I held my short sword in one hand and cautiously walked through the dungeon.

This short sword is called the [Yumei Short Sword], which I obtained from this dungeon previously.

It’s an excellent weapon, given that it’s only obtainable by defeating the boss on your first solo attempt.

I’ve been using it ever since I got it.

"Hmm, here they come."

I directed my short sword towards the presence of the monsters.

Three wolf-type monsters with distinctive gray fur, known as Gray Wolves, appeared.

They attack with well-coordinated teamwork, making them quite troublesome...

But...

"They’re slow."

I dodged the Gray Wolves’ attacks and immediately swung my short sword to deal damage.

Last time, it took me some effort to clear it, but since my level has risen significantly since then, they were hardly a challenge.

Just by leveling up and increasing my stats, I can feel such growth.

While skill in combat is certainly important, in this world’s level system, raising your level is indeed the most crucial.

I defeated the Gray Wolves in about a minute and continued on my way.

Avoiding battles with monsters along the way as much as possible, I managed to reach the boss room relatively quickly.

Fortunately, no one else seems to be fighting the boss right now.

As I entered the boss room, the entrance closed.

The entrance won’t open until the boss is defeated.

If someone challenges the boss before you, the waiting time can be quite troublesome.

Regardless, I need to focus on the boss now.

The boss of the Yumei Dungeon is a Harpy, a monster with a woman’s face and bird-like body.

Its characteristic is singing a lullaby to make you sleepy, but it’s a level I can endure with determination, so it’s not really that threatening.

More troublesome is the fact that it usually circles in the air and only comes down to attack, making it difficult to attack from my side.

Last time, it took me quite a while to defeat it because of this.

But this time, I should be able to win more easily.

To avoid getting stuck in the same situation again, I acquired a new skill after that.

That skill is, simply put, beginner magic.

I can cast four elemental spells: fire, water, wind, and earth.

The power isn’t that strong, but it’s a valuable means of ranged attack.

"So, let’s get started—Fireball!"

I repeatedly cast the spell at the Harpy in the air.

Timing my attacks to dodge its counterattacks, I swung my short sword.

Without much trouble, I successfully defeated the Harpy.
