In the palace’s underground, there is an ancient prison.
[Do not ever go down there. There is a snake.]
A forbidden phrase that I’ve heard since I was a child.
Do not go to the underground prison to see the trapped snake.
“If the snake is released, the country will perish.”
[That snake is a calamity that will ruin the country.]
Out of curiosity, against the advice of adults, Cheong-Ah went down to the underground prison and saw a pitch-black, gigantic snake confined behind iron bars.
The fear-stricken Cheong-Ah ran away from there upon making eye contact with the snake, and as time passed, she forgot about its existence.
On the day when those who coveted the throne invaded the palace after her father’s death, Cheong-Ah recalls the snake in the underground prison.
“If the country is going to perish anyway, I’ll make it perish with my own hands.”
Instead of letting the kingdom fall into the hands of greedy individuals, Cheong-Ah decides to open the door of the underground prison, and the snake that has been imprisoned there for a long time is awakened.
