“I-I challenge you.”

The one to hesitatingly raise their hand first, was Sumeragi.

“I’m grateful that you came forward in this place. Then let’s have a bout at the dojo.”

Ritsu said that as he looked towards Sumeragi, who had his arm raised.

“You are, from the entrance…”

“Sumeragi, I heard that you already provoked Yozakura Ousei once at the entrance, and were made to bend the knee. Yet you still wish to challenge him?”

Igarashi looked at the standing Sumeragi, as he said that.

“That is, well yes. I’m sure the outcome would have differed had I used my skill. Since I believed it inappropriate to create an uproar at entrance, I refrained from using it.”

Sumeragi desperately tried to explain himself while twisting his tongue.

“I see. An overwhelming loss without the use of skills, would turn into a different outcome if skills were used, is what you are saying.”

“Overwhelming loss…is not what that was. I simply mistook him for an outsider, and was blindsided as a result.”

Sumeragi answered as sweat poured down his body.

“If rolling on the floor pitifully doesn’t constitute as overwhelming to you, then that negligence must simply be a part of your abilities.”

Igarashi directed a harsh, piercing look towards Sumeragi.

“Igarashi Ousei, in any case, I believe a bout can settle this all at once.”

After saying that, Ritsu gazes at Sumeragi.

“However, it shall be problematic if challenging an Ousei was considered so lightly. I must question his resolve here.”

Igarashi didn’t back down.

“Enough of that, both of you. Sumeragi. From what I hear, you purposely tried using your standing in the school to intimidate someone who didn’t belong to it.”

Ryuugen stopped both of them, before calling out Sumeragi.

“No, those are falsehoods-“

“Your actions these days have been increasingly unpardonable. If you’re unable to prove your abilities to me this time, then be prepared to step down from your seat. I request Yozakura Ousei to help Sumeragi with his test to prove his abilities. That should resolve any problems.”

“I see, if an Ousei acts as an examiner for an Ouchou with poor behavior, then there should be no problems.”

Igarashi told Ritsu he was leaving the rest to him, as he stepped back.

“Very well, then let’s do that. Everyone, we will hold this test at the first martial-arts hall, in the annex building.”

“Let’s change venues, shall we?”

As Iori said that, and left the place alongside Ryuugen, everyone present also started moving in unison.

“Then let us begin this test.”

Ryuugen confirmed that everyone was present in the first martial-arts hall.

“I’d like to see all your capabilities, including your skills. To determine your right to be an Ouchou, I shall serve as judge on account of being the Oushuu. All present here shall serve as my witnesses. Is that fine with you two?”

“I have no problems.”

Ritsu distanced himself from Sumeragi as he said that.

“I understand.”

Sumeragi replied unwillingly.

“You may begin at my signal.”

Ritsu kneaded Ki, and wrapped himself with it.

His opponent Sumeragi wrapped himself using magic, and activated body strengthening.

The people looking on around them, showed varying expressions.

“The Ousei hasn’t activated his body strengthening. Is he okay?”

“I’m sure he has a plan right?”

“But, I can feel a strange presence emanating from his body.”

“Yeah, the wave he released in the assembly hall had incredible killing intent, but it surely wasn’t magic.”

“Well, I’m sure we’d know as we watched, right? Frankly speaking, I think there’s nothing worse that Sumeragi Ouchou becoming an Ousei, but I think we can believe in the other Ouseis to do something about that.”

“Don’t say that out loud.”

Ritsu was thinking about Sumeragi’s strengthening from his status, as well as the magical strengthening which multiplied that.

(According to the spirit tree, normal people used magic to strengthen themselves and fight, but I wonder how effective that is. I can’t really put my finger on what I haven’t seen. I guess I’ll strengthen myself without letting my guard down, for now.)

Ritsu further strengthened himself by wrapping Ki more strongly around him.

The air around Ritsu wavered and distorted, while the entire martial-arts hall shook lightly.

“Y-you caught me off-guard at the entrance, but I assure you I won’t lose this time.”

Sumeragi deemed Ritsu, from whom he couldn’t feel any magic at all, as an opponent not worthy of him, but nevertheless increased his vigilance after seeing Ritsu’s current appearance.

(So what! All will go well for me once I become Ousei! I don’t sense even a sliver of magic from him. He’s surely no match for the strengthened me!)

Sumeragi inspired himself and stood boldly in front of Ritsu.

“Ah, wait, is it alright to use skills here? Won’t it break the place?”

Ritsu asked while gradually strengthening the Ki around him.

“This martial-arts hall is constructed out of tough material. There is also a protective barrier around it. You won’t break it that easily.”

Igarashi assured Ritsu.

“Is that so. Thank you very much.”

Saying so, Ritsu drew his sword, relaxed slightly, and faced Sumeragi.

“Ready…Begin!”
