Having finished their meal, the two were headed to the Labyrinth Management Dept. to report the anomaly.
“I can do this myself, so Yozakura-san need not have to bother.”
Sayuki told Ritsu, who was walking beside her.
“No, it’s better to have as many eyewitnesses as you can when making such a report. I shall accompany you.”
While making small-talk about the happening inside the labyrinth, the two made their way to the department.
As they entered the administration department, they talked to the employee at the counter about the anomaly in the labyrinth.
“We encountered an unusually high-level monster at the deeper floors.”
“You as well…”
As Sayuki made her report, the employee made a face that looked lost in thoughts.
“”As well”? Are there others who have made the same report?”
“Yes, they are currently being questioned in the manager’s office.”
“Questioned?”
Ritsu asked with a curious face.
“Yes, since there was a casualty in their group. Other reports of incidents have been gradually increasing since this morning as well.”
The employee replied with a darkened expression.
“They are still talking. Let me guide you to the manager’s office.”
The employee took them to the back, without waiting for their consent.
“Come in.”
As the employee knocked on the door, a response followed immediately.
“There was a report about an anomaly at the labyrinth, so I brought the reporter.”
“I see. Have a seat over there, you two. The rest of you can wait in the lobby.”
The person inside the room instructed Ritsu and Sayuki to sit, while the group of explorers already inside left with grim expression, as if they were exchanged with Ritsu’s arrival.
“I’m Sakai, the manager of the Labyrinth Management Department. Please tell me more about this anomaly.”
Sayuki gave a more detailed explanation of what she saw compared to previously.
“I see.”
Sakai makes a difficult face as he was lost in his thoughts.
“We should put restrictions on entry.”
The employee who stood behind Sakai made that suggestion.
“Aah, since it’s still in the deeper levels, we have a grace period before they make it to the surface. I want to resolve this before that happens.”
“Um…why do you want to resolve it inside the labyrinth? Since it is surrounded by walls, I believe it’s better to shave down the escaping monsters, rather than fight hoardes of them within those narrow walls.”
Sayuki reacted to Sakai’s words.
“That is…”
Sakai wrinkles his eyebrows and struggled to find the right words.
“When a monster escapes the labyrinth, it will move in a commanded manner… To be precise, it’s possible that an individual with intellect is born once it reaches outside, am I right?”
Ritsu continued where Sakai left off.
“How do you know…”
“Ah.”
(Was this not normally known? It’s information from the spirit tree, but this is an emergency, plus it was already revealed during registration that I was an Ousei.)
“Such a thing.”
Sayuki and the employee opened their eyes wide in shock.
“Why do you know that-“
Ritsu took out his card and showed it to Sakai.
“Ousei!? I see, so the rumors of a new Ousei being born were true after all.”
Sakai muttered while staring at the card.
“Ousei-dono, abnormalities in the labyrinth have been confirmed. Requesting assistance from Yozakura.”
Sakai looked firmly at Ritsu as he requested.
“The management department exists as a separate entity from the school, but they can request assistance from the school temporarily. In these cases, you typically cannot refuse them.”
Sayuki whispered, to the confused Ritsu.
“I see, thank you.”
He thanked her in a low voice, and replied to Sakai.
“I understand.”
As Ritsu promised Sakai that he’d cooperate, and their discussions continued, the outside suddenly became raucous and a single employee barged inside in a hurry.
“Knock my man, knock…”
Sakai remonstrated the employee, but the employee raised his voice to indicate this now was not the time for that.
“High-level monsters has been spotted at the shallow floors of the labyrinth!! They’re currently being held back by volunteer explorers, but they have already approached the 2nd floor!”
“What!? This is much faster than I expected…”
Sakai jumped up from his chair and yelled.
“Sakai-san! Please commandeer the explorers! If they break through the 2nd floor then it won’t be long before they reach the surface!”
“Fine!! Ousei-dono, could you fight alongside the explorers? Please handle the higher-rank monsters, if possible.”
Sakai quickly dons his armor.
“Got it. Let’s go.”
